About the Item
A large 1960s Italian Sgraffito Pottery Table Lamp in the style of Augusto Giulianelli, San Marino, depicting sgraffito images of a guitar, carafes and drinking vessels to one side, and an abstract design to the reverse. The pottery base colour has a whitish-blue glaze with a black iron oxide and dark green panel front and back, decorated in a cacophony of colours. There are a couple of nibbles to the top and the base (please see last images), but all-in-all do not detract from such a stunning piece. Signed to the base model '879 Italy'. Professionally rewired with black 2-core twisted cable with an inline switch and black plug. Measurements: 70cm H x 16cm Diameter, neck of lamp measures 10cm Diameter.

Large Abstract Studio Pottery Stoneware 'Pagoda Pot' by Alan Ashpool England 70s

A stunning three hooped ‘Pagoda Pot’ by Dorset potter Alan Ashpool, with a flared bowl to the top, tiered forms made from a mixture of thrown and slipcast sections joined together, culminating in a bell shaped base. Predominantly in an ecru colourway, followed by a dark grey glaze, then a turquoise/blue glaze, culminating in a stunning bronze manganese glaze. There are also beautiful blue flecks in the ecru finish, which were created in the firing process.
A wonderfully impressive and tactile piece measuring 40cm in height, in very good condition with no chips or cracks. Alan Ashpool backstamp to the base alongside the original address label.
Dorset based potter Alan Ashpool, studied pottery under Heber Matthews (1905-1959), a foremost student of William Staite Murray and teacher of Hans Coper.
