19th Century French Neo-Greek Classical Bronze Lamp by Henry Cahieux

About the Item

A 19th century French Neo-Greek Classical bronze lamp by Henry Cahieux probably cast by the Barbedienne foundry, Paris and inscribed Hy Cahieux, 21.5cm wide, 21.5cm deep, 49cm high. Henry Cahieux (1825-1854), was the head decorator for the renowned artistic bronze founder Ferdinand Barbedienne. Lamps in the Grecian style were shown by Barbedienne at the Paris Salons of 1850 and 1853 when the style was at the height of its popularity. After Barbedienne's death in 1854 lamps by Cahieux were shown at the 1855 Universal Exhibition and were awarded a medal of honour for the Barbedienne stand. This lamp is in good original condition and retains its original mid brown patination, beautifully cast and decorated with classical figures. The lamp has been re-wired and PAT tested for use in the United Kingdom. The sale does not include the display shade illustrated.
