About the Item

Luciano Frigerio was born in Desio in 1928. He completed his technical-administrative studies cultivating two great passions since his adolescence: furniture design and music composition. The socio-economic reality of Brianza offered in those years strong entrepreneurial possibilities in the art of furniture designing. Texts and magazines about furniture he got delivered from the United States since the 60s, the association with prestigious Canturese workshops where he often met fugures such as Gio Ponti, Franco Albini, Carlo De Carli and Tapio Wirkkala, transformed his family business into a company that looked to the international market. A team of technicians who worked closely with Frigerio helped him realize his dream: furniture as a unique piece, made by combining and adding together all possible materials of excellence. Over the years, Frigerio started collaborating with some famous Italian architects and designers including Franco Albini, Sergio Asti and later Paolo Portoghesi. Luciano Frigerio asked them to design furniture that could be created in his workshop with handcrafted specifications with the belief that an architect could design a piece of furniture as a unique piece and not just furniture for industrial production. This philosophy led the company from the 1970s to the 1990s to the opening of ten showrooms in all the major Italian cities. This big table lamp (that can eventually be used also as a floor lamp) is entirely made by hammered brass and it was designed in the 70s. Fully original, completely working. Patina of time. The light can be rewired for US standards upon request.

20th Century Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni Table Lamp Taccia for Flos
By Achille & Pier Giacomo Castiglioni, Flos
Located in Turin, Turin
Table lamp model "Taccia" designed by Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni in 1960s for Flos in extruded aluminium with painted metal reflector and mouth-blown translucent glass diffuser, and base in polished, nickel-plated and zapped steel; very good condition. This project stems from Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni's desire to make a table lamp with indirect light. Following various studies, they made a prototype with an opaque white reflector made of plastic material and a supporting cup, also made of plastic material but transparent. After various experiments, they discarded the idea of using plastic material because of the deformations that were created to the reflector support due to the heat of the concentrated light source. The final prototype turns out to consist of a reflector made of aluminum lacquered in a matte white color in the convex part, polished in the concave part, and a support cup made of transparent glass resistant even to high temperatures. Achille Castiglioni said in 1987: "This is an interesting lamp because of its history, and because someone today confuses it for a post-modern object...
