A one-of-a-kind functional relic, this dramatic table lamp is crafted from an original early 20th-century fire alarm box manufactured by the Gamewell Company of Newton, Massachusetts. Cast in iron and finished in its iconic fire-engine red enamel, the piece preserves all of its original detailing—from the raised “GAMEWELL” branding and embossed instructions to the hinged access panel and numbered brass station plate (No. 4284).
The architectural pediment and classical proportions lend a striking visual presence, now elevated—literally and figuratively—as an electrified lamp. The interior has been hollowed and outfitted with a brass stem and standard socket, while the exterior remains untouched in its authentic form, down to the operational pull mechanism and keyed lock (with key included).
Resting on a custom ebonized wood base, this sculptural lamp reads equally as a piece of Americana, early municipal design, and industrial art. A conversation starter for collectors, designers, or anyone drawn to urban artifacts reimagined for modern interiors.
