About the Item
Lamp by Arne Bang, Danish 20th century Studio Potter. Built in two sections, the crown is removable to allow access to the light socket.
Arne Bang (1901-1983) trained at the Royal Academy of Arts as a sculptor and went on to become a well-known sculptor and studio potter. In 1926 he started his own studio with Carl Halier (known also from Royal Copenhagen) and from 1929 he was also affiliated with Holmegaard Glasværk where his older brother Jacob Bang was the artistic director. There he started experimenting with stoneware – his IDEA was to produce high-quality stoneware which could be purchased by ‘ordinary’ people, not expensive unique works.
