Ministerial Desk Lamp, Siemens Milano, 1930s-1940s
An elegant and rare ministerial desk lamp, manufactured in Italy by Siemens Milano, a division of the German Siemens company. Siemens had a strong presence in Italy, particularly in Milan, where they operated since the early 20th century, producing high-quality industrial and office lighting.
This lamp features a heavy-gauge iron structure with a distinctive "buccia d'arancia" textured finish ,(orange peel finishing) a hallmark of early industrial coatings, and is enriched with a solid brass stem. The wide, enameled iron shade has a white interior, designed to maximize light diffusion, making it ideal for professional settings. The Siemens Milano metal label on the base confirms its authenticity and provenance. Its typography and style of the label suggest this piece belongs to the 1930s-1940s era, a time when Siemens used simple black and white metal or enamel plates with industrial lettering for their branding. The "Milano" designation was commonly used in Siemens' Italian manufacturing until the mid-20th century, further supporting this dating. The lamp’s metal construction and minimalist design align with the rationalist and industrial aesthetics of the 1930s-40s, frequently seen in ministerial and office lamps of that period.
