Art Nouveau Table Lamp with Owl Decor, Michael Andersen & Sons, Denmark, 1920s

About the Item

Wonderful ceramics table lamp made by Michael Andersen & Sons, Denmark in the 1920s. The earthenware lamp base was handmade and decorated with owl reliefs and expressive red glazing. Stamped underneath "MA&S" and model no. 621. Equipped with a new flax linen shade. Michael Andersen & Sons was a famous danish ceramics workshop established in 1890 at the small island of Bornholm, Denmark. They were one of Denmarks finest ceramics workshops. With traditional names such as "Søholm", "Michael Andersen" and "Hjorth's Keramik", Bornholm has managed to place itself heavily on the Danish map within ceramics and handicrafts. Just like Japanese ceramics, Bornholm ceramics are characterized by a very high quality – and has been ever since the early 1800s, when the first ceramics and terracotta factories were established on the island. In many Danish homes today there are still ceramic mugs, plates and other useful and art objects made on Bornholm
