Austrian Orientalist bronze model lamp by Anton Chotka. This charming cold-painted bronze lamp depicts a busy scene of an open plan coffee shop within an Islamic style building, which features a dome ceiling, crescent moon finials and Moorish archways. Behind these columned archways, several figures are depicted drinking coffee, smoking huqqa pipes and are surrounded by various pots, rugs and an octagonal table. Crafted in exceptional detail with a rich color palette, this lamp is characteristic of the works of Anton Chotka, a renowned producer of cold-painted bronze lamps and figurines in 19th and early 20th century Vienna. The lamp is signed ‘Chotka’ to the base.

Made in the traditional Viennese manner of cold-painted bronze, the piece is an outstanding example of high quality Orientalist design. Three shoe cobblers are depicted working together in a traditional Orientalist building, one covered by textiles to protect them from the elements. The wall is decorated with a large pair of scissors, a tool often used by shoe cobblers.
