About the Item

A pottery table lamp by Bernard Rooke, England, circa 1960s. Hand-built in stoneware, this naturalistic form reflects Rooke’s shift toward more organic, expressive motifs within the Brutalist British ceramics movement of the post-war period. The oval body features a raised red leaf motif on each face, framed by vertical, flame-like ridges. The surface is richly textured and finished in layered tones of iron red, ochre, and lavender-grey, with soft glaze pooling across the contours. Stamped with Rooke’s ‘BR’ mark to the base. Dimensions Height: 41.5 cm Width: 17 cm Depth: 13 cm Condition Very good vintage condition. One minor kiln flaw to the front leaf (a stable firing chip), otherwise intact with original surface and form. A characterful example of 1960s British studio pottery, combining naturalistic forms with a brutalist sensibility
