About the Item

Skip to Content OAM COLLECTION TRADE RENTALS ABOUT Shop Bill Lam Fiberglass Lamp Bill Lam Fiberglass Lamp $3,500.00 Model LL-130 Fiberglass Light-table, designed by Bill Lam and produced by his own company, Lam Workshop Inc. A cylindrical fiberglass shade rests on a lacquered wood tripod base, this minimalist design contrasts natural and industrial elements. Our example is in very good condition, with a clean fiberglass shade that has developed a pleasing patina with age. The lamp has been rewired for modern use, and emits a soft, ambient glow. Bill Lam is recognized for his innovative use of materials and forward-thinking lighting solutions. Deeply influenced by Finnish architect Alvar Aalto during his time at MIT, went on to establish Lam Workshop in Massachusetts in the late 1940s. His lighting designs gained wide acclaim, including use in the Case Study House program and notable features in Arts & Architecture magazine. As a pioneer in architectural lighting, Lam authored two landmark books, Perception and Lighting as Formgivers for Architecture (1977) and Sunlighting as Formgiver for Architecture (1986), which remain foundational in both architecture and lighting design.
