Brown Stoneware Table Lamp, Model number 59617, by Scheurich West Germany 1960s

About the Item

This very rare mid-century modern table lamp is a classic example of West German pottery by Scheurich, dating from the 1960s. It features a bold, sculptural ceramic base with a rich, earthy brown glaze characteristic of the era's fat lava and textured stoneware styles. The lamp base has a tall, bottle-like silhouette that flares subtly toward the bottom. Its surface is decorated with a repeating vertical relief pattern that adds both visual rhythm and tactile depth to the design. The relief gives the lamp a subtle tribal or totemic character and reminds of the sublime art works by Wallåkra pottery in the south of Sweden. The glaze is a warm mix of chestnut, deep brown, and ochre tones, applied in layers that accentuate the surface texture and pattern. The semi-matte finish gives the piece a natural, organic quality. At the top, the original ceramic neck transitions to a teak connecting piece under the metal bulb socket. Deepstamped underneath: West Germany Scheurich 59617 DIMENSIONS: Height (to top of socket): 25 cm Height (to top of base): 16,5 cm Height with shade: 30 cm Base diameter: 9,5 cm We can fit the lamp with either an EU or US plug at no extra cost.
