Brutalist Stoneware Table Lamp, Brown Glazed Ceramic, Denmark, 1970s

About the Item

This Brutalist stoneware table lamp was designed by Jette Hellerøe for Axella of Denmark, in the 1970s. Its sculptural form—featuring a wide circular base, elongated stem, and minimalist ring handle—reinterprets the traditional chamberstick with a distinctly modernist edge. Handcrafted in brown glazed ceramic, the lamp’s textured surface exhibits an almost Brutalist finish, a hallmark of Hellerøe’s approach to Scandinavian ceramics. The glazing technique enhances the organic, tactile quality of the stoneware. The underside bears the Axella Denmark stamp, affirming its authenticity and provenance. Dimensions: Diameter: 18 cm Height to lamp holder: 29 cm Height to highest lampshade carrier: 45 cm Height to lowest lampshade carrier: 39 cm The lamp retains its original adjustable-height lampshade carrier, lamp holder, and wiring, all in good working order. However, additional PAT or UL testing may be necessary to meet current safety regulations.
