'Carousel no.1' Paper Table Lamp by Jason Robinson
About the Item
Designed and produced by Jason Robinson, Carousel (no.1) draws inspiration from the sculptural works of Isamu Noguchi and Erwin Hauer. Paper lanterns had existed long before Akari, however Noguchi brought his own language to the art form transforming lanterns into 'light sculptures'. Erwin Hauer - known for his architectural walls and screens - deftly played with light through complex patterns and the absence of material.
Carousel (no.1) continues with these traditions - adding elements of movement, interactivity, technology and expressivity. Rotating the outer shade, subtly changes the dappled pattern, much like light sparkling through the leaves of a tree. The shade is made of traditional coldpress watercolor paper, while the base is crafted from solid maple. 2700K warm LEDs illuminate the object and are dimmable. Carousel no.1 will be a light object you will enjoy and (re)experience for years to come.

Jason Robinson Art + Design
Jason Robinson is a Canadian designer and artist based in Brooklyn, NY. His practice cuts across a wide creative spectrum - from art, furniture and lighting to humanitarian and consumer products. At every opportunity, he brings his own hands to his work, keeping a human-centered approach as the focus. Many of his projects invite users to engage with his pieces - often through touch - allowing them to create their own personal experiences. Jason's work has been showcased at the Museum of Modern Art, Design Miami and WantedDesign Manhattan. Born in Canada, Jason attended Stanford University (BSc, MA) in 1989. After graduating, he began his design career at the international design firm, IDEO, which eventually led him to open his own design consultancy. His work for international agencies such as UNICEF, has appeared in over twenty countries and touched the lives of over a million children. "From my perspective - art, design and all that fall in between - are part of the human experience. It is the exploration of the human experience that drives my creative practice. Sometimes this means problem solving. Sometimes this means expressing or amplifying an idea. Often this means creating products or experiences that elevate our sense of self and our community." - Jason Robinson
