Charles Catteau Art Deco Lamp, Boch Frères Keramis, 1934, New Pleated Shade
About the Item
Meet Turquesa, a stunning, one-of-a-kind table lamp transformed by Amitābha Studio from a rare Boch Frères Keramis Art Deco vase (model F1291), designed in 1934 by the renowned ceramic artist Charles Catteau. This remarkable piece exemplifies the bold experimentation and geometric elegance that defined Catteau’s work during the Art Deco movement. The vase’s monochrome turquoise glaze with a signature crackled finish—an unmistakable hallmark of the Boch Frères Keramis factory—brings a striking, vibrant allure that draws the eye. The lamp was created without harming the original vase in any way.
Paired with a custom pleated lampshade, crafted from a vintage Indian silk sari in rich shades of turquoise, pink, and gold, this lamp strikes a beautiful balance between bold form and delicate detail. The pleating adds a soft, textural element that contrasts with the sleek lines of the vase, creating a harmonious blend of color and form. Whether placed in a living room or bedroom, Turquesa is more than just a lamp—it’s a statement piece, seamlessly blending Art Deco elegance with contemporary craftsmanship.
Boch Frères Keramis, founded in 1841 in La Louvière, Belgium, was known for its high-quality ceramics. Under the artistic direction of Charles Catteau, the factory transitioned from producing utilitarian objects to creating esteemed works of art. His designs, influenced by Japonisme, Cubism, and the abstraction of nature, brought international acclaim to the company. This unique vase-lamp is a perfect representation of the artistry that emerged during Catteau’s tenure, making it a highly collectible piece of Art Deco history.
Please note, the lamp is fully wired for use in the U.S. Additionally, the listed height includes the lampshade. We also ensure compatibility for global use by offering a free plug customization service to match the electrical standards of your specific country.
