About the Item
Lovingly handcrafted by Amitābha Studio in Amsterdam from an antique Boch Frères Keramis vase (Model 1118, circa 1920–1930) designed by Charles Catteau, this one-of-a-kind table lamp transforms the iconic Art Deco “pineapple” vase. We’ve paired the vase base with a new bespoke hand-pleated lampshade made from hand-woven, hand-dyed Ikat cotton-silk fabric crafted on traditional Uzbek looms. We’ve also added a matching green cord. The lamp was created without harming the original vase in any way.
This ceramic vase—commonly referred to as the pineapple vase—was produced by Boch Frères Keramis in La Louvière, Belgium between 1920 and 1930. Designed by Charles Catteau, the vase features a repeating geometric relief pattern molded into its ovoid form and finished with a fine ivory craquelure glaze. Known as Model 1118 in the Boch Frères catalog, it reflects Catteau’s Art Deco vocabulary: bold geometry, stylized natural references, and technical innovation in glazing.
The gathered lampshade is made from Ikat fabric in a vivid pattern of blue, green, and ivory. Its characteristic feathered edges and subtle tonal shifts come from the labor-intensive dyeing and weaving process, done entirely by hand using traditional techniques preserved by Uzbek artisans.
