About the Item

Large French Art Deco Table Lamp by Charles Schneider, ca. 1920 — Blown Glass & Wrought Iron. This exceptional French Art Deco table lamp by renowned glassmaker Charles Schneider (Epinay-sur-Seine, Paris) dates to circa 1920 and showcases the distinctive craftsmanship that made Schneider a leading figure of the Art Deco movement. The blown molded glass shade—created using Schneider’s innovative double-layered glass technique with powdered pigments between the layers—features a stunning interplay of purple, white, and ochre tones. It sits atop a beautifully hand-forged wrought iron base, adding weight and elegance to this collectible piece of early 20th-century French lighting design. The glass is signed “Schneider” with the authentic 1928–1929 signature (see photos), confirming its origin and period. In excellent original condition, the lamp exhibits some natural coal and sand inclusions, characteristic of the artisanal glassmaking techniques of the era. This rare Art Deco lamp is fully functional and will be professionally rewired for your country (US, EU, Australia, etc.) prior to delivery. LED bulbs are compatible. A true collector’s piece—ideal for adding a sophisticated accent to any interior, from modern to eclectic, Art Deco to industrial. About Charles Schneider: Charles Schneider (1881–1952) was a master of French glassmaking and a pivotal figure in the evolution of Art Nouveau and Art Deco glass art. Trained at the École des Beaux-Arts in Nancy and Paris, he began his career at Daum before founding his own glassworks with his brother Ernest in 1913. Known for bold color contrasts, innovative techniques such as intercalary décor and marqueterie de verre, and collaborations with top designers like Gaston Hoffmann, Schneider’s work ranged from Le Verre Français acid-etched pieces to the signature Schneider line of blown art glass vases and lighting. At its peak, the Schneider factory employed over 500 artisans and exported extensively to the United States, making lamps like this one rare finds in the art glass market today.
