A polished chrome cylinder table lamp attributed to Von Nessen. On / Off switch near top of the base. Lamp shade not included.
Von Nessen was a German-born designer who immigrated to the United States in the 1920s and became one of the leading figures in modern American lighting design. He founded Nessen Studios in New York in 1927, producing lamps and lighting fixtures that combined streamlined forms with functional innovation. His work embraced materials such as brass, chrome, and glass, often with adjustable elements, reflecting the ideals of the Machine Age and Bauhaus influence. Von Nessen lamps were widely used in both residential and commercial interiors through the 1930s–50s, and his designs helped establish modern lighting as both practical and decorative. Today, original Von Nessen lamps are sought after for their timeless modernist aesthetic and historical significance in American design.
