Circa 1930 Art Deco Bronze Sculpture Table Lamp by Jean Lormier

About the Item

JEAN LORMIER French, 20th century Figural Lamp of a Woman Holding a Lamp Patinated bronze figure, brass candlestick, marble base Signed verso "J. LORMIER" circa 1930 Item # 208YIJ18K A very finely cast bronze figural lamp modeled by Jean Lormier, it features a stylized female with crisply cast fingers and toes, her stylized hair swirling around the features of her face while her eyes are locked on the lamp raised in the palms of her hand. She is finished in an old silvered finish while a draped garment cast over her shoulder cascades before and behind her, this finished in an overall dark brown chemical patination. The lamp originally would have been covered in a frosted glass shade, this since lost; we had our in-house metalsmith fabricate a solid bronze candle well, threaded to match the original threads of the light and left in a high-polish untouched surface. The reverse of the garment is signed "J. LORMIER". An incredibly fine Deco period model. Artist Listings & Bibliography: *Bronzes: Sculptors and Founders 1800-1930, Harold Berman *Art Deco and Other Figures, Brian Catley *Art Deco Sculpture, Victor Arwas *Statuettes of the Art Deco Period, Alberto Shayo Measurements: 15 1/2" H x 5" D x 18 1/4" W [overall]; 8 1/4" H x 3 1/2" D x 15 1/2" W [bronze figure and lamp] Condition Report: The lamp originally would have had a frosted glass shade, this now absent. The brass candlestick held by the figure is custom fabricated by our in-house specialist and is a high quality element. Lighting tested and works beautifully. A fine polished surface. ART DECO CHROME, ETCHED-GLASS AND MARBLE LUMIERE TABLE LIGHT France, circa 1930s unmarked Item # 311FWS30K This rich decorative table light features a pair of fish floating along in the ocean surrounded with hints of seaweed and air bubbles, the decoration acid-etched into one of the two layers of glass. One layer of the glass is clear while the backing is amber glass to create a warmer glow. Two chromed metal spheres on either side of the circular glass hold the pane in place while a light bulb is installed within the larger sphere. Light can only escape from a small opening in the larger sphere, directing that tiny hint of illumination against the glass to add drama to the fish. The upper hemisphere of the larger removes to give access to the small light bulb. The lamp is raised over a polished Nero Portero marble...

ART DECO FIGURAL MANTEL CLOCK Anton Grath (Austrian, b. 1881) patinated and burnished bronze over marble signed "Anton Grath" and foundry marking monogrammed "HW" within an "H" to right side of base Circa 1925 Item # 203AXG01W A powerful figural clock of a partially nude male and female raising offerings of a laurel wreath and an empty vessel, they face one another before the bold architectural display of the clock flanked by coned finials. They are loosely symmetrical in garb, the burnished bronze capes flowing gently around and before them. The circular face of the clock rests on a pair of sleeping lions over a textured bronze rectangular plinth with a burnished bronze bas-relief of a young woman lying in the grasses of a setting sun raised on a variated marble base. This model was acquired formerly at the Sotheby's, New York sale on April 14th 2008, [Sale N08427, lot 155, achieved $ 5,000 USD] and the patina was enhanced at some point in the last fourteen years to include the parcel-burnished highlights in the figures. This is a stunning figurine table lamp of a nude lady bronze Figurine sculpture made in France, circa 1930. The figurine is heavy and made of bronze metal with good detail. It has been cold painted with a green colour which has worn away in places, showing a patinated bronze colour beneath. The lady is stood on a round ball above a shaped shell like base. The figure is holding the lamp above her head with the electric cable running into the base and vertically up her back to the lamp fitting above. A coloured spherical glass shade firmly sits in the dished support. The light is currently fitted with a small bayonet fitting, the whole electrical fitting having been PAT tested for safety compliance in the UK. The fitting could easily be modified to suit the electricity supply of the country where it might be used .
