'Colorin' Desklamp by Eduardo Albors Gilbert for Lamsar, 1970s

About the Item

“Colorín is a lamp that was dreamed rather than designed. At that time, I designed wooden toys (construction toys, vehicles) for small children, using turned woods lacquered in basic colours and assembled with simple systems such as rods, dowels…,” explains designer Eduardo Albors. “I suppose that, through what they call ‘professional deformation’, I imagined this lamp in my dreams. I got up and I drew it just as the final result would be.” Colorín is a table lamp created by Eduardo Albors in 1979 and produced by the Valencian lighting firm Lamsar. Comprising simple geometric shapes assembled and lacquered in primary colours, this lamp, as is completely logical after the explanation given by its inventor, is reminiscent of wooden construction toys. Eduardo Albors was born in Valencia in 1949. He studied Applied Arts and Business and is an Industrial Designer. Albors founded Caps I Mans in 1972 where he developed industrial design work and graphic and interior design for many companies, not only lighting such as Lamsar. In 1984 Eduardo Albors took charge of the department of Product and Image design of Ronda Iluminaçao (lighting) in Sao Paulo, Brazil and up to 1989 he lived and worked between Valencia and Sao Paulo. In 1985, Caps I Mans, NBC and other designers create a collective design named La Nave. Eduardo Albors designed appliances, ceramics, furniture, glasses, plastics, textiles, toys, shoes, dental equipment, electronics and ultrasound. In domestic lighting and technique he developed more than 200 projects for several companies. For Lamsar he designed lamps from 1972 until 1980. They are all on his website, including this Colorin table lamp. He not only designed lighting for the company but he was also responsible for image and product advice, Brand and logo graphic design, catalogue design, artistic photography direction, packaging design, publicity and promotion direction, office interior design and 25 lamps. He designed lighting for Lamsar (1972 – 1983), Ronda (1984 – 1990), Zass (1988 – 1993); DeO (1999 – 2002), Zeramic (2003 – 2004) and for Zul since 2002. Except for Ronda, they are all lighting companies from Valencia, Spain. AA#220030.
