The title of this work 'This is not a lamp' is a reinterpretation of “Ceci n'est pas une pipe”, a French phrase for "This is not a pipe" from Magritte’s painting.
A pipe presented in the painting is a pipe according to the custom. However, Magritte intended to represent a contradictory image and a text in order to break away from the conventional idea.
This is a lamp with a bulb and a switch, which follows the convention, but it also serves as a functional sculpture which aims to be an aesthetic object.
