About the Item

Design Technics Brown Tone Ceramic Lamp with Original Fiberglass Shade, ca 1950s This lamp was purchased in New Jersey around 2013 at the Estate of one of the cousins of the Design Technics owners. They had a vast collection of Design Technics items and this is one of the last remaining items we still posess. Dimensions: Overall: 30½"H x 17" Dia Shade: 15"H x 14¼" Dia (Top) x 17" Dia (Bottom) Base: 23"H (socket) x 6 ½"Dia. This will require two boxes to ship for safety of the original shade. If you desire to purchase the base only please contact us through 1stDibs and we can omit one box from shipping quote which may save some on shipping cost. Although the company was not located in Stroudsburg, Design Technics, which produced ceramic items unmatched in uniqueness, was pinpointed years ago by its mailing address of RR 2, Stroudsburg, as being in the borough. Its factory was actually located along Route 611 in Snydersville. A search of Internet still detects its one-of-kind products as being created by "Design Technics of Stroudsburg." The hand-crafted art produced by this small nationally known firm included not only large decorative wall tiles but also giftware such, ashtrays, vases, bon-bon dishes and jam jars. Corning Glass and Union Carbide were among the businesses that displayed the smaller decorative items in their offices. During its heyday, the Design Technics also sold pieces to architects and builders. The company's products helped to enhance the interior of the Eastern Airlines building at Kennedy International Airport and the Banco Populaire in Puerto Rico. Other Design Technics projects included those at Piggly-Wiggly supermarkets in Wisconsin and, locally, an outdoor space divider in Taminment. Founded in Greenwich Village, New York, as a craft and design shop in 1940 by husband and wife team of Sam and Lee Rosen, the fledgling company specialized in tiles and lamps. Also offered were classes in a variety of media: metals, weaving, enameling and, of course, ceramics. With Lee as the chief designer, the company continued to grow, opening shop in Syndersville. In 1954, after years of producing three-dimensional tiles, Design Technics expanded, still concentrating on ceramics, but broadening the products offered. In 1981, the Syndersville shop was destroyed by fire. - Source: Pocono Record

George Nelson for Howard Miller Small Cigar Bubble Lamp, ca 1950s This is an iconic bubble lamp designed by George Nelson, originally for the Howard Miller Clock Company. As you can see in the images this has the original sticker still attached to the metal frame. These were in original production from the 50s through the very early 70s before production was discontinued. Newer ones have been produced by various companies including Modernica, Gossamer and now the officially licensed lamps are produced by Herman Miller. These produce the most beautiful yellow glow when lit. Vintage ones throw a nicer light since the material has mellowed where newer ones will throw a white light. Bubble lamp pendant...
