About the Item

A striking mid-century ceramic table lamp by Design Technics, featuring a tall ribbed body finished in their distinctive KT matte glaze. The form is capped with a walnut neck and rests on a flared walnut base, creating a warm contrast to the cool, earthy glaze. The tactile surface and sculptural silhouette are hallmarks of Lee Rosen's work, who served as principal designer for Design Technics in the 1950s-1970s. Founded in Greenwich Village in the 1940s, Design Technics quickly became a cornerstone of American studio modernism, offering handmade ceramic lighting, tables, architectural tiles, and decorative objects. Their work bridged craft and modern architecture, appealing to leading designers and architects of the mid-century period. Pieces were often commissioned for high-end interiors, including hotels, office buildings, and modernist homes. Lee Rosen's contributions to Design Technics helped define their signature style-often combining wheel-thrown stoneware forms with carved or slip-trailed decoration and richly textured glazes. In addition to lighting, the studio produced sculptural objects, tables, and even architectural façades, reflecting the era's fascination with organic form and tactile materials. This example remains in very good vintage condition, rewired and ready for use. The large-scale shade shown is original but in rough shape and not included unless requested. If desired, we can provide exact measurements to have a similar shade reproduced. Due to its size and fragility, we recommend double boxing or blanket-wrapped delivery for safe transport. Measurements: • Overall height with shade: 40.5 inches Height from base to socket: 27 inches • Ceramic portion alone: 9 inches diameter x 17.25 inches tall A strong and rare form from one of the most sophisticated American studio workshops of the postwar era. Condition: very good vintage condition with minimal wear. The glaze shows subtle natural variation and surface texture inherent to studio ceramics of the period

Table Lamp by Ugo Zaccagnini
By Ugo Zaccagnini
Located in Kilmarnock, VA
A beautifully proportioned and sculptural table lamp by Ugo Zaccagnini, featuring a soft robin’s egg blue crackled glaze with subtle tonal variation and surface depth. The gentle craquelure enhances the organic curves of the ceramic body, lending the lamp a tactile quality and a sense of quiet movement. The original rosewood cap and base provide a rich material contrast—dark, refined, and architectural against the delicate surface of the glaze. This interplay of texture and tone reflects the studio’s deep sensitivity to form and finish. Zaccagnini, one of Italy’s most respected 20th-century ceramicists, worked at the intersection of tradition and modernity. Known for his sculptural forms and refined glazes, his work was widely exhibited and retailed through top galleries and luxury decorators in postwar Europe and the United States. This lamp’s silhouette is bold yet fluid—equally at home in a richly layered interior or a clean-lined, organic modernist space. The cool, pale blue makes it a versatile design element: it can act as a subtle pop of color in a neutral room, or as a cool, calming contrast against deeper hues and dark woods. Designers such as Gio Ponti, Billy Baldwin, or Kalef Alaton...
