About the Item

This vintage Delft polychrome table lamp, handcrafted by Amitābha Studio in Amsterdam, is made from a rare mid-20th century vase by Royal Tichelaar Makkum—Europe’s oldest ceramic manufacturer. We’ve paired the distinctive octagonal base with a deep indigo velvet lampshade and a matching blue silk cord. The lamp was created without harming the original vase in any way. The vase is a beautifully preserved example of hand-painted Delftware, featuring stylized floral bouquets within ornamental cartouches. Its rich palette—cobalt blue, terracotta red, olive green, and golden yellow—reflects the polychrome tradition developed as a vibrant counterpart to classic Delft Blue. These intricate motifs are inspired by 17th- and 18th-century Dutch interpretations of Eastern decorative arts. The rare octagonal shape is accented by a custom brass collar, precisely cut to echo the vase’s form. The velvet lampshade complements the deep blue glaze while introducing a soft, contemporary contrast. The result is a vintage Dutch ceramic lamp that bridges tradition and modern design with subtle elegance. Ideal for both classic and eclectic interiors, this antique ceramic table lamp offers warmth, artistry, and historical character—perfect for adding a distinguished focal point to a sideboard, desk, or nightstand. ⸻ Please note: The lamp is fully wired for use in the U.S. Additionally, the listed height includes the lampshade. We also ensure compatibility for global use by offering a free plug customization service to match the electrical standards of your specific country. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us! ⸻ About Royal Tichelaar Makkum: Founded in 1572 in the northern Dutch town of Makkum, Royal Tichelaar is the Netherlands’ oldest ceramics producer and one of Europe’s most esteemed. Originally a brick and tile maker, the company began specializing in tin-glazed earthenware by the 17th century and developed a unique style rooted in Delftware traditions. The factory’s “painter’s chamber” approach—assigning master artisans to hand-decorate each piece—has endured through the centuries. In 1960, the company received the Royal predicate in recognition of its cultural importance. Today, Tichelaar Makkum continues to bridge tradition and innovation, collaborating with leading designers while preserving artisanal craftsmanship. About Amitābha Studio: Amitābha Studio is an Amsterdam-based design atelier dedicated to transforming historic European ceramics into one-of-a-kind lighting objects. Each lamp is crafted with deep reverence for the original form, using non-invasive methods that preserve the integrity of every antique or vintage vase. We pair these bases with bespoke lampshades—often made from luxurious textiles such as vintage sari silks or fine European fabrics—and finish each piece with carefully selected cords, fittings, and handmade brass elements. Our work is guided by a commitment to sustainability, cultural heritage, and timeless design.
