Early 20th-century Famille Noire Chinese Cloisonne Yellow Dragon Table Lamps

About the Item

This is an exquisite pair of cloisonne baluster lamps crafted from polychrome enameled metal, featuring captivating yellow dragons in the Famille Noire style. Each lamp is meticulously adorned with yellow dragons chasing a flaming pearl against a striking black background, creating a visually stunning focal point. These lamps are repurposed from a pair of Chinese cloisonné vases, showcasing their versatility as table lamps. The background, adorned with clouds, enhances the overall aesthetic, while the beautiful yellow double dragons contribute to the timeless allure of this piece. This early example of cloisonné artistry boasts a combination of vibrant hues of white, blue, and yellow that stand out against the black background. Crafted from metal (copper?) and enamel, this piece hails from early 20th-century China, embodying a unique blend of cultural richness and artistic finesse. The black ground cloisonné vase, converted into a lamp, showcases yellow-scaled dragons facing a flaming pearl amidst decorative bands featuring ruyi clouds, flowers, lappets, and blooming peonies. This sophisticated piece not only captures the essence of Chinese craftsmanship but also serves as a testament to the enduring beauty of cloisonné art. Elevate your space with this meticulously crafted pair of lamps that seamlessly blend history, artistry, and timeless design. Lamp shades are not included. The lamp plug can be changed to EU or US plug. Just tell us which one you want. Dimensions: Height: 24 cm Diameter: 11.5 cm Description of Lao Tian Li's works Lao Tian Li, a prestigious cloisonné studio, operated in Beijing during the late 19th through the early 20th century. Renowned for their exceptional craftsmanship, they were distinguished for producing works of the highest quality. The blog "Beadiste" provides a comprehensive guide on distinguishing Lao Tian Li's authentic works from later copies. Lao Tian Li's masterpieces stand out as exemplary, showcasing meticulous attention to detail. The characteristics that set them apart include a vivid depiction of a 5-toed dragon, featuring pointed claws, distinct toe pads, and spurs on the legs. The dragon's rounded chin and distinctive bulbous snout exhibit bumpy or spiky edges, complemented by a pair of sinuous barbels alongside the nostrils. Notable features continue with animated, close-set black and white eyes, pronged horns emerging from a bulbous dotted base on the dragon's forehead, an open mouth with a curved pointed tongue, and an angled jaw defined by a double line. Fangs with outer pointed tushes and a flowing mane add to the intricate detailing. The body scales are meticulously applied, with individual scales following the belly edge, rather than a mere wavy line. A thin barbed crest along the back maintains proportional harmony between the head, claws, tail, and body. The background is adorned with uniform small rounded crinkly clouds, featuring a tight round center. These clouds are skillfully and evenly applied, further contributing to the authenticity of Lao Tian Li's exceptional creations.
