Extremely rare table lamp, designed by Greta Lisa Jäderholm-Snellman, 1950/1960s. Brass frame with wooden slat lampshade. Designers mark. Good vintage condition, minor patina consistent with age and use.
Greta Lisa Jäderholm-Snellman (1894-1973) was a Finnish ceramist and journalist. She studied at the School of Applied Arts. Jäderholm-Snellman worked as a ceramist in Chatillon, France, at the factory of Oy Arabia Ab in Helsinki , T. Sèvres in France, Riihimäen Lasi Oy and Oy Ahlström Ab's Iittala glass factory. He also taught porcelain painting at the Central School of Arts and Crafts from 1929 to 1937. On her initiative, a department "Kauniimpaa arkitavaraa " (for the most beautiful everyday objects) was established at the Arabia factory in 1929. Greta Lisa Jäderholm-Snellman held numerous exhibitions from 1921 onwards, including in Helsinki, Paris and London, and together with her husband, artist Eero Snellman, throughout Finland. Jäderholm-Snellman worked as a freelance journalist and wrote for several Finnish newspapers and magazines. She also wrote articles on Finnish design for the English magazine The Studio Yearbook. Jäderholm-Snellman was a member of the Board of Directors of the Cité Internationale des Arts à Paris from 1958 to 1973 and a member of the Board of the Foundation of the City of Artists in Paris from 1960 to 1973.
