A striking small-scale modernist table lamp, model 6166, designed by Czech-born industrial designer Ernest ’Igl’ Hofmann and produced by the renowned Swedish lighting manufacturer Falkenbergs Belysning in the 1950s. Featuring a cigar-shaped body in solid brass, resting elegantly on slender black-lacquered metal legs that give it a light, sculptural presence. Its perforated steel diffuser adds both texture and function, filtering the light to create a soft, atmospheric glow and a distinctive play of light and shadow. The lamp can also be mounted on the wall, transforming it into a stylish wall lamp. Ernest Igl
Ernest Igl graduated from the Karlsbad Commercial Academy in 1938 and then attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague and the Academy of Applied Arts in Munich. After the war, he worked as a draftsman and graphic artist in Munich. Igl enjoyed a high reputation as one of the first illustrators at major school book publishers and distinguished himself as an internationally sought-after industrial designer. He died in Davos in 2001.
