About the Item

Pair of French neoclassical table lamps. Beautiful, imposing and elegant pair of table lamps, created in Paris France, back in the 1970's. They are designed with neo-classical shapes in the French style of the Napoleon III period. It is displayed on a triangular base with chamfered corners and the main shaft follows the lines of a triangular obelisk with the same chamfer pattern. Mounted with highly polished carvings of natural black onyx on 24 karat ormolu gilded pieces. The golden ormolu base is decorated with three clawed lion paws. The lamps are heavy and big, each one have a weight of 35 pounds and just the onyx base have a measurements of 216 mm by 216 mm by 470 mm (8.5 x 8.5 x 18.5 Inches) plus an extra 10.5 inches for the vastague pole. Note: Although the style is a French neoclassical, it can also have modernist influences and almost retro or federal style. It is imposing and with a great eye appeal They are both stamped with markings on top, 2-2, 8-8. They are in great vintage condition, has been recently rewired and tested for working condition. French empire pair of candle holders lamps. Exceptional pair of antique candleholders, created in Paris France during the imperial period of Napoleon III, circa 1870. They was designed with French empire neoclassical patterns, masterfully crafted with parts made up in gilt bronze ormolu and patinated bronze. Mounted in fluted columns pedestals carved from gray dotted Granite, with polished finish. Embellished with garlands and putties mounted in a four square and stepped bases. French Empire Louis Napoleon Bonaparte (1808-1873) was Emperor of France from 1852 to 1870 under the name of Napoleon III. In a way, the artistic codes of the Napoleon III style, also called Second Empire style, were presented at the Exhibition of 1844, during the reign of Louis-Philippe d'Orléans. The second Empire style, also known as the Napoleon III style, is a highly eclectic style of architecture and decorative arts, which uses elements of many different historical styles, and also made innovative use of modern materials, such as iron frameworks and glass skylights. It flourished during the reign of Emperor Napoleon III in France (1852–1870) and had an important influence on architecture and decoration in the rest of Europe and North America.
