French 19th Century Neoclassical Style Bronze and Ormolu Lamp
About the Item
A striking and large scale French 19th century neo-classical st. patinated bronze, ormolu and faux painted Porphyry lamp. The lamp is raised by ormolu ball feet below a most decorative and wonderfully executed faux painted Porphyry bottom tier. The patinated bronze base displays an elegant stepped design with a fine wrap around ormolu band displaying a fine Coeur de Rai pattern. At each side of the square base are richly chased maidens draped in elegant flowing garments and playing with charming musical instruments. At the center is the superb socle pedestal with a fine fluted design in a stunning satin and burnished finish. The elegantly shaped body is encased by beautiful pierced palmettes and floral movements with finely detailed ram heads and lovely seated cherubs playing a flute at each side. Graceful maidens dressed in period attire joyously dance with an elegant Les Oves ormolu band that extends along the top lip. Above is a striking pierced ormolu top cap with rich foliate movements and palmettes designs. All original gilt throughout.
