About the Item

Exquisitely handcrafted in Amsterdam by Amitābha Studio, Louis is a one-of-a-kind table lamp made from an early 20th-century Desvres faience vase attributed to Georges Martel, renowned for his revivalist Delft-style ceramics. Produced circa 1900–1920, this hand-painted ceramic base is a vivid example of French polychrome faience, distinguished by its painterly motifs and rich coloration. The vase features the pseudo-Delft “LF” mark, an homage to 17th-century Dutch potteries like De Metaale Pot under Lambertus van Eenhoorn. Its vibrant decoration includes stylized birds, florals, and curling foliage in cobalt blue, burnt orange, golden yellow, and green — all applied over a tin-glazed white ground. Martel’s meticulous, historically informed approach gives the piece its unmistakable sense of authenticity and charm, setting it apart from other Desvres ceramics. We’ve paired the vase with a custom slate-blue velvet lampshade, handmade in a Dutch atelier. The soft texture and saturated hue bring a modern contrast to the ornate base, while a gold fabric cord adds a refined finishing touch. The lamp was created without altering the original vase in any way. With its rich color palette and timeless form, Louis is ideal for a Chinoiserie, French Country, or Bohemian interior, offering both atmosphere and artistry. The lamp was created without harming the original vase in any way. ⸻ Please note: The lamp is fully wired for use in the U.S. Additionally, the listed height includes the lampshade. We also ensure compatibility for global use by offering a free plug customization service to match the electrical standards of your specific country. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us! ⸻ About Géo Martel: Georges Martel (signed Géo Martel) operated a faience atelier in Desvres from circa 1900 to the early 1940s, producing Delft-style polychrome ceramics of remarkable quality. His handcrafted lamps often bore pseudo-Delft marks—like the “LF” seen here—in direct imitation of signatures used by 17th-century Delft potters, especially Lambertus van Eenhoorn of De Metaale Pot. Unlike earlier Desvres producers such as the Fourmaintraux-Courquin factory, Martel emphasized historical authenticity and painterly finesse. Today, his works remain among the most sought-after vintage table lamps in the Delft revival tradition. About Amitābha Studio: Amitābha Studio is a design atelier dedicated to transforming historic European ceramics into one-of-a-kind lighting objects. Each lamp is crafted with deep reverence for the original form, using non-invasive methods that preserve the integrity of every antique or vintage vase. We pair these bases with bespoke lampshades—often made from luxurious textiles such as vintage sari silks or fine European fabrics—and finish each piece with carefully selected cords, fittings, and handmade brass elements. Our work is guided by a commitment to sustainability, cultural heritage, and timeless design.
