About the Item

French vintage ceramic table lamp by Albert Thiry (circa 1970s). Not one of his usual subjects or motifs, ceramicist Thiry created the figure - an upright clerical - wearing an old fashioned ruff collar with hands that edge out of the robe to hold a rounded vessel of sorts. A stunning ceramic artwork that can be both utilitarian as a table lamp, or simply used as a decorative object for display. As currently configured, the light bulb housing is fitted loosely to the ceramic (not a permanent attachment). When standing on a table as a lamp, however, this has no adverse visual effect and the lampshade sits evenly on the piece. The maker's signature appears on the base of the piece. It is in overall good condition, currently configured electrically for UK use. It can be easily reconfigured for use in your area. Please enjoy the many photos accompanying this listing. Upon request a video will be provided. (The lampshade is included with this piece). About the Artist: Albert Thiry (1932-2009) was born in Nice, France. His family moved to Vallauris where he spent most of the school holidays in the potteries; in 1956 he was taken on as an assistant decorator with an opportunity to make his own pieces. Albert and his wife, Pyot, set up their own pottery in 1961. Their standard production, in Vallauris clay with added grog to emphasise rusticity, resulted in delightful pieces both highly elaborate and utilitarian. Dimensions of ceramic only: H 43 cm / 16.9" W 15 cm / 5.9" D 15 cm / 5.9" Dimensions including lampshade: H 64 cm / 25.2" W 30 cm / 11.8" D 19 cm / 7.5"
