George Nobuyuki Kimura Pottery Table Lamp

Wonderfully organic in form with a sgrafitto design on the surface of ti leaves or cacoa pods, this large mid century table lamp was created by George Nobuyuki Kimura and offered by his firm, Sy Allan Designs of California. A large bulbous form, it rests on a inverted bowl socle base of figured wood.

George Nobuyuki Kimura, a potter & ceramist, born 1933 in Pa'auilo, Hawaii, which undoubtedly influenced his design motif with this lamp. Both ti plants and cacao are widely found in Hawaii. He died in 2007 at age 74. Marking a successful career in modern design, he was represented in the 1965 Pasadena Art Museum exibit California Design/9.
