Having original label. 1919-1956 Midgard Licht was founded in 1919 by engineer Curt Fischer, who is credited with inventing adjustable lighting. Fischer patented the world's first adjustable electric lamp in 1919. Midgard lamps were widely used at the Bauhaus school in Dessau, appearing in the studios and residences of masters like Walter Gropius and Josef Albers. Midgard is a historic German lighting company with a deep connection to the Bauhaus movement, which greatly influenced its functional and minimalist designs. The relationship between Midgard and the Bauhaus was a symbiotic one, built on a shared ethos of marrying functionality with precise, machine-like aesthetics. Midgard designs adhered to Bauhaus principles of modernism, focusing on utility, simplicity, and superior craftsmanship.
