About the Item
Extraordinary copper galleon, attributed to the Guild of Handicraft.
This stunning ship demonstrates how Arts & Crafts revived the decorative arts, and gave new dignity to the craftsman in the wake of industrial revolution.
The attention to detail is wonderful throughout. This ship features handmade glass windows of different colours, with opalescent bulls eye glass port holes below.
The Guild of Handicraft was formed in 1902 in Chipping Camden, by C.R. Ashbee.
The stated aim of the Guild included to 'seek not only to set a higher standard of craftsmanship, but at the same time, and in so doing, to protect the status of the craftsman.'
This fabulous galleon omits a wonderful light and will make a brilliant statement piece in an interior.
