About the Item
Named after Herman Bang, the Herman lamp is a tribute to the notable Danish author’s enduring artistic legacy and the way in which he led his life. Regarded as a trailblazer who shone a light on dimly lit issues society chose to ignore, Bang became a key figure in the Modern Breakthrough. Much like his stories, the Herman lamp offers a small beacon of light that has a literary quality to it.

Signe Hytte seeks to uncover purity in everything she turns her hand to. She finds beauty in the absolute essence of things, stripping away all that is extra without eliminating the essential.
Prior to graduating from TEKO Design and Business School in Denmark, Hytte studied Aesthetic and Culture at Aarhus University. “I have a deep desire to do something special without overdoing it,” says Hytte. “Aiming for something simple yet meaningful that you feel good about looking at and living with.”
Hytte’s starting point is never nothing. Often, it’s some kind of framework like geometry, as seen in her Journey lamp. Here, her point of departure was the sphere and a rectangle. “For me, when you turn on the lamp, the sphere is reminiscent of the moon,” adds Hytte. “The rectangle acts like a cradle for the sphere. A bit like those toys for children, where the impetus of the sphere makes the sphere roll forward down a track until it eventually lands.” And the journey? “It’s all about going somewhere. Travelling without travelling. An inner journey, with the lamp lighting the way for new thoughts, new beginnings.”

So please note the following :
- The fixture is designed for 220V. Some of the driver circuits may be able to "feed" the LEDs enough current even with a 110V input, some may not. You'd have to try it and see. The bulb will either not work, produce a very dim light, or work at full brightness. (If the bulb doesn't work, changing the bulb with bulbs that are rated for the planned voltage will work )
- Wire conduct electricity whether it is 110 volt or 220 volt – wire doesn't discriminate. So long as you use a bulb purchased in the US (made for 110 volt usage), you don't have to worry about the voltage difference.
- You can convert 220 volts to 110 volts by either using an adapter plug or removing the existing 220 receptacle from the outlet box or replace the plug end with a 120v plug.
