I-Beam II Dichroic Glass Table Lamp by Caroline Chao

About the Item

As seen in: Dwell Magazine, Sight Unseen, Design Milk, and Hypebeast I-Beam II Light is the newest version of the VIEW I-Beam Light. The original version was released as part of VIEW, a five-piece collection of sculptural glass and mirror furniture seeking to bring interactive views into objects and furniture. I-Beam II is its new and improved successor, with proportions fine-tuned to suit a variety of environments while remaining portable for everyday use. I-Beam II Light is a minimalist glass lamp that seeks to bring interactive views into object interiors. Views are used to challenge the viewer through intrigue and curiosity when unexpected visual effects are produced through interaction with the pieces. Due to the dichroic and two-way glass used, I-Beam II dynamically changes colors throughout the day and depending on what angle it is viewed from. Colors can range from blue to pink to gold, and often appears as a dynamic combination of each. It is a piece that lives with its surroundings rather than in them, representing the belief that joy often comes from unexpected or momentary effects, and that objects should live and change with their surroundings just as we do. I-Beam II Light is designed to be used as a sculptural and decorative table lamp. Due to its planar intersections and dichroic glass, I-Beam II Light creates a rich array of reflections and adds color and spatial dynamism to a space when the light is both turned on and off. Materials: Tempered glass, two-way mirror, dichroics, polished stainless steel Includes: (1) E26 Tubular LED bulb (shown) 120 delivered lumens Optional Customizations: - Default cord is a white fabric-covered ~5' length cord with thumb switch. Cord length and color can be customized upon request at no extra cost. - UL-certified upon request (+$200, +2 weeks) - Default comes as US-wired; please inquire for European or other global voltage/wiring (additional fee for non-US wiring)

VIEW Glass Mirror Accent Coffee Table by Caroline Chao
By Caroline Chao
Located in New York, NY
VIEW Coffee Table is part of a five-piece collection of sculptural glass and mirror furniture seeking to bring interactive views into objects and furniture. VIEW Coffee Table is made from ultra-clear low-iron glass and mirrored glass base. While furniture typically hides its interior structure, this piece creates an unexpected view into the depth of its base, visible through the tempered low-iron glass tabletop. Through the use of mirrors and dichroics, the view through the base dynamically changes throughout the day, changing color from a deep blue to a teal, blue-purple, and golden tones depending on the view angle and the environment. The collection represents the belief that objects have the capacity to shift perceptions. Views are used to challenge the viewer through intrigue, curiosity, and joy when unexpected visual effects are produced through interaction with the pieces. The pieces change constantly as you live with them - colors may change with the sun angles throughout the day, a reflection may shift when viewed from a different angle, or the piece may create an optical effect that displaces or distorts your reflection in an unexpected way. The user is encouraged to participate in the reflections, in a sense becoming a part of the piece. Materials: low-iron glass, mirror film, dichroics, steel base plate, tempered low-iron glass tabletop. Comes with pre-installed cushioned felt furniture...
