FABULOUS! PERSPEX & METAL TWO TONE TRIPOD TABLE LAMP AFTER GIO PONTI for ARREDOLUCE Dimensions: Approximately 22" tall by 9" deep and 9" wide This extremely rare Italian table lamp is a fine surviving example of the work with early plastics in the mid century period. While aluminum was the wonder-metal of the 30s, after WWII the cutting edge in development was in plastics. This lamp has a two part plastic body. In those days the material was called perspex. Inside are two sockets that fit two 15 watt appliance style bulbs. A line cord turns the lamp on and off. This was absolutely cutting edge stuff for 1955. However due to costly manufacturing and concerns about durability, production was halted. These lamps are rare indeed. No one really knows how many were produced, but it is a very small number. Only two decades later, in the seventies, mass produced plastic lamps be ubiquitous. In fine vintage condition. Perspex is still supple and intact with no cracking. Lamp works as it should and displays marvelously. A superb decor and illumination addition to your NY penthouse, Palm Springs atomic ranch or West Palm Beach estate!
