JACQUES BLIN (1920-1995) CERAMIST :
Jacques Blin was a renowned French ceramist who initially started his career as an aeronautical and automotive engineer. During World War II, he taught industrial design in Paris and worked in the aviation industry. In the late 1940s, he decided to pursue his passion for design at an artistic level and began learning ceramics in various Parisian workshops.
He started creating jewelry, lamps, and utilitarian ceramics produced in small workshops in Paris, Indre, and the Loire region. His friendship with the painter Jean Rustin (1928-2013) helped him develop a unique artistic vision in his ceramics. His creations are often engraved with mythological figures, including wild and fantastical animals, making his style instantly recognizable.
Blin gained both national and international recognition, winning several prestigious awards such as the Grand Prix Bernard Palissy (1958) and the first prize at the 1965 International Ceramics Exhibition. From 1971 to 1991, he served as the president of the Chambre Syndicale des Céramistes and was a founding member of the Salon des Ateliers d'Art, which later became the Fondation des Ateliers d'Art.
He was knighted in the Légion d'honneur in 1983 and became an Officer of the National Order of Merit in 1988.
