About Jacques Poussine: Jacques Poussine (1923–1985) was a French ceramist renowned for his contributions to the Sant Vicens ceramic workshop in Perpignan, starting in the late 1940s. Initially, his work leaned towards figurative styles but later evolved into more graphic and abstract forms. He collaborated with notable artists like Joe and Pat Rowland and contributed significantly to the ceramic artistry of the mid-20th century. Poussine also created decorative works for buildings, such as facades and interiors in Canet-en-Roussillon In addition to his artistic creations, Poussine operated a gallery in Fitou, showcasing his ceramics and those of his contemporaries. His works, often characterized by vivid glazes and intricate designs, remain sought after in the art and antiques market. About Sant Vicens Ceramic workshop: Sant Vicens is a notable example of mid-20th-century Mediterranean art and architecture, located in Céret, France. Originally a ceramics workshop, it gained prominence in the 1950s and 1960s for its collaboration with influential artists such as Pablo Picasso, Jean Cocteau, and Raoul Dufy. Sant Vicens was originally a traditional Catalan farmhouse. It became a hub for artistic collaboration, blending traditional craftsmanship. The workshop is celebrated for its high-quality pottery and tile designs. Artists like Picasso used Sant Vicens' facilities to experiment with ceramics, creating unique works. The building itself reflects the Mediterranean aesthetic, with whitewashed walls, terracotta tiles, and a blend of rustic and artistic elements. The site is emblematic of the intersection between functionality and artistic innovation. Today, Sant Vicens stands as a testament to the dynamic collaboration between traditional craft and modern art, influencing the artistic identity of the region. It remains a point of interest for art enthusiasts and historians.
