About the Item

Soft pink lacquered metal Prototype realized in 1969, prior to series put into production during the 1970s for Gruppo UFO and Studio Alchimia. Hence making it a rare early prototype. On the base of the lamp there is a "Made in Italy" label. Lapo Binazzi is a designer and a founding member of the UFO collective, one of the “supergroups” of Italian architects and designers in the late 1960s who banded together to express their utopian and political manifestos through their provocative works. Encompassing interior and industrial design, fashion, film and performance art, Binazzi’s work exists in a space between conceptual and pop art. Binazzi defined this genre as “Discontinuity.” Binazzi’s projects, which were celebrated on the covers of Domus magazine and exhibited as stage sets at numerous fairs as well as in restaurant and disco interiors, incorporated props such as giant hunks of foam cheddar cheese and magic toadstools, with inflatables, human performers and temporary design installations and interventions. His highly sought after lighting — such as the Dollaro, MGM and Paramount table lamps and the Pinocchio floor lamp — cleverly re-appropriated cultural iconography as a commentary on culture and commercialism. This three-arm, three bulb wonderful classic vintage table lamp is totally Mid-Century Modern with a Tommi Parzinger style, circa early 1950s. It is monumental and fully restored. This is presented without a shade. The shade would fit over the top disk from the final. The finial is original, it has been re-wired with a gold cord. The brass has been beautifully re-polished. All of the white metal has been refreshed with white lacquer paint. Measure: It is 35" to the top of the white metal disk where the brass will hold the bulbs.
