About the Item

Large Chinese Qing Dynasty Famille Rose Lidded Temple Jar Converted Lamp Striking 19th century Chinese porcelain baluster Temple jar with white background against overglazed Wucai polychrome decoration. This is a good example of Wucai or five color ware; which first appeared during the Ming Dynasty and is characterised by exquisite artistry and intricate decoration. The motifs include phoenixes, flowers, like peonies, plants and birds that reflect symbols and natural imagery. On the reverse of the jar is a verse or poem calligraphic inscription in black enamel. The Temple jar is converted to a beautiful and impressive table lamp which is fitted with a single fixture and mounted on a wood carved base. Wucai porcelain from the Qing Period is highly valued for its artistic complexity. Condition is good. Few small chips on the cover rim. No shade is supplied.
