Lacquered and gilded wood candlesticks in empire style from the late 1800s in good condition with small wear and tear caused by years and use. Please review the attached images carefully. The empire style is one of the most appreciated to this day for its invaluable value. It is a current of the nineteenth century: Neoclassicism, of which it is the highest expression. Interested in furniture, architecture, decorative and visual arts, the Empire style characterised each field in a distinctive way; it went beyond the geographical limits of birth to expand much further and enjoy enormous success. First of all, since Napoleon's Empire style is a current of Neoclassicism, the reference to classical art is evident, both in furniture and architecture. This is particularly visible in the choice of shapes and decorations. On the other hand, with the archeological discoveries of Herculaneum and Pompeii there was the discovery of many Greco-Roman objects; these were taken as real models, especially in the decorative intent. Here Napoleon's Empire style adopts geometric patterns, laurel garlands, mythological figures, vine and acanthus stylisations.
