Miniature painted on copper framed brass style Napoleon III late 1800

About the Item

Miniature painted on copper framed in brass style Napoleon III late 800. The miniature is in good condition with small wear and tear caused by the use and the passage of years. The Napoleon III style is usually associated with the renovation of Paris conducted by Baron Georges-Eugène Haussmann between 1852 and 1870. The buildings therefore proposed a total renovation of the structures, consequently to a new urban reorganisation of the city, unusual for the period. There were numerous public buildings such as railway stations, the chamber of commerce and of course the Palais Garnier, although the work of greatest commitment was certainly the Nouveau Museum of the Louvre. The style is characterised by facades with attic (more rarely by pavilions) richly decorated but with precise lines, clearly distinguished by the Secondo Impero style buildings. The term is not only used for architecture, but also extends to period furniture. In summary, the Napoleon III style resumed the most serious and austere forms of the First Empire, but the eclecticism that characterised the period made it more graceful, refined and elegant, reflecting and well representing the socio-cultural and economic period that France lived then.

The empire style is one of the most appreciated to this day for its invaluable value. It is a current of the nineteenth century: Neoclassicism, of which it is the highest expression. Interested in furniture, architecture, decorative and visual arts, the Empire style characterised each field in a distinctive way; it went beyond the geographical limits of birth to expand much further and enjoy enormous success. First of all, since Napoleon's Empire style is a current of Neoclassicism, the reference to classical art is evident, both in furniture and architecture. This is particularly visible in the choice of shapes and decorations. On the other hand, with the archeological discoveries of Herculaneum and Pompeii there was the discovery of many Greco-Roman objects...
