About the Item

An articulating desk lamp model C429 by Lumen Milano in brass, enameled aluminum and marble, late 1940s production. Note the faint vertical seam in the brass base cone indicating it was worked by hand and silver-soldered from the inside, old school. Model designed by the young Oscar Torlasco who would later go on to design a similar version for his own company, Lumi, and inspire several similar designs from the most artistic Italian lighting workshops. An adaptation of the core double cone was later licensed to and produced by American company, Lightolier. Lumen S. A. per Illuminazione Razionale, via G. Verdi, 7 Milano was founded in 1936 by Gino Sarfatti along with Aldo Valcarenghi and Dino Mondolfi. Sarfatti would leave in 1939 to found Arteluce. Lumen frequently appeared in the pages of Domus and Stile and produced designs by Gio Ponti. Rewired for USA.
