Maison Baguès Pair of Table Lamps in Brass Faux Bamboo and Fabric, Italy 1960s

About the Item

Midcentury amazing pair of adjustable table lamp in brass faux bamboo and fabric lampshade in the style of Maison Baguès. Made in Italy in the 1960s. A beautiful pair of lamps that is perfectly working. European plug (works outside EU with a simple plug adapter). Since its founding in 1860, Maison Baguès has been the emblem of French refinement in the field of luxury lighting. Each piece made by the company is hand assembled using traditional techniques to highlight the elegance and excellence of their detailed craftsmanship. Even today, Maison Baguès is the embodiment of savoir-faire: its luxurious pieces are appreciated for their craftsmanship, beauty and harmony. Master metallurgist Noël Baguès founded the company as a specialist in liturgical bronzes, but in the 1880s the company expanded into the production of bronze lamps in response to the development of electric lighting. Carried on by Noël's son Eugène and nephews Victor and Robert, the Maison Baguès continued to progress, adding intricately detailed iron lighting collections, as well as stair railings, gates and accessory tables in the 1920s. In the interwar period, Baguès began selling internationally, expanding the company's business to New York, Rome, and Cairo. Known for its high-end craftsmanship, such as intricately carved sconces and hand-set crystal chandeliers, Maison Baguès catered to an elite clientele. While Baguès' Art Deco crystal lighting fixtures attracted most of the attention, the company was also known for custom metalwork that attracted commissions from major interior designers and furniture companies such as Maison Jansen and Raymond Subes . The idiosyncratic genius Armand-Albert Rateau used Maison Baguès accessories to decorate the interior of Jeanne Lanvin's town house in 1928. Maison Baguès products are also present in luxury hotels such as the George V in Paris and the Savoy in London. Today Maison Baguès continues its history of delicate and detailed work and dedicates much of its activity to preserving the company's heritage through restoration. Their efforts are worth it.
