About the Item
An exceptional Fantoni ceramic lamp showcasing a vibrant orange-red flambé glaze, accented by a dramatic purplish-black mark that underscores the dynamic, organic qualities of this celebrated glaze technique. The unpredictability and depth of flambé glazes became a signature of post-war Italian ceramics, representing both technical mastery and artistic innovation.
Guido Fantoni (1918–1999) was a pivotal figure in Italy’s post-war ceramic renaissance, blending traditional craftsmanship with avant-garde experimentation. As part of the wave of Italian potters transforming ceramics from purely functional craft into expressive modern art, Fantoni was renowned for his bold forms and complex glazes, which earned international acclaim throughout the mid-20th century.
Operating during a time when Italy was rebuilding and redefining its cultural identity, Fantoni’s work embodied the optimism and creative fervor of the era. His innovative approach was featured in influential design publications like Domus magazine, which championed the Modern Movement and helped disseminate Italian design aesthetics worldwide. Domus played a crucial role in promoting designers who fused art, architecture, and industry—principles that Fantoni’s ceramics perfectly exemplify.
Fantoni’s pieces are now prized by collectors for their unique blend of technical sophistication and sculptural beauty, marking an important chapter in the history of post-war Italian modern design and the evolution of studio pottery.
Please note the inset bottom of this lamp was removed during original wiring; refer to photos for condition details. Despite this, it remains a stunning testament to Fantoni’s artistry and the rich legacy of mid-century Italian ceramics.

Marcello Fantoni
Marcello Fantoni was a Florentine artist who specialized in ceramics. He studied at the Art Institute in Florence, where Libero Andreotti and Bruno Innocenti were his sculpting professors and Gianni Vagnetti was his figurative art professor. Fantoni began to work as a ceramist in 1934, opening his factory in 1936. After the Second World War, he became very successful, and his works are held in some of the world's most important museums (from the USA to Japan).

Table Lamp by Ugo Zaccagnini
By Ugo Zaccagnini
Located in Kilmarnock, VA
A beautifully proportioned and sculptural table lamp by Ugo Zaccagnini, featuring a soft robin’s egg blue crackled glaze with subtle tonal variation and surface depth. The gentle craquelure enhances the organic curves of the ceramic body, lending the lamp a tactile quality and a sense of quiet movement.
The original rosewood cap and base provide a rich material contrast—dark, refined, and architectural against the delicate surface of the glaze. This interplay of texture and tone reflects the studio’s deep sensitivity to form and finish.
Zaccagnini, one of Italy’s most respected 20th-century ceramicists, worked at the intersection of tradition and modernity. Known for his sculptural forms and refined glazes, his work was widely exhibited and retailed through top galleries and luxury decorators in postwar Europe and the United States.
This lamp’s silhouette is bold yet fluid—equally at home in a richly layered interior or a clean-lined, organic modernist space. The cool, pale blue makes it a versatile design element: it can act as a subtle pop of color in a neutral room, or as a cool, calming contrast against deeper hues and dark woods.
