Margaret Brassler Kane Signed Bronze modernist figural Lamp Base "Swimmers" C 1940. this is a good heavy bronze casting with fine patina. stylized modernist work.
Kane studied at Syracuse University, the Art Students League in New York City, and also with sculptor John Hovannes.
Kane created sculptures in stone, wood and plaster at her studio in Manhattan and later at her home in Connecticut. Afterwards, she had various sculptures cast in bronze from the original material. Kane's marble and wood sculptures and reliefs often depicted contemporary life and the prevailing social conditions, including such subjects as Harlem Dancers, Refugees and Air Raid.
Her work was exhibited in many places in the United States including the 1939 Worlds Fair, Metropolitan Museum of Art, Whitney Museum and the Brooklyn Museum.
