The Maria Pergay "Totem" Table Lamp is a masterpiece of contemporary design that finds the perfect balance between art and functionality.
Extremely rare and probably the only Maria Pergay Totem Lamp for sale in the world.
This lamp, created by the renowned French designer Maria Pergay, reflects her signature style characterized by elegance, refinement and innovation.
The combination of noble materials such as stainless steel and bronze gives the lamp a timeless and luxurious appearance. The stainless steel frame has been expertly crafted, so that the light is subtly reflected and enriches the environment with a warm glow.
The "Totem" Table Lamp is not just a light source, but a work of art in itself. The play of light and shadow that is created by the layered structure of the lamp gives a dynamic character to the environment in which it is located. Maria Pergay just passed away on October 31, 2023, she was 93 years old.
Her career began in the 1950s, when she worked with silver to create window displays for Parisian boutiques, and her designs quickly made her a major creative in the city with commissions from the likes of Hermès and Christian Dior. While the silver pieces she created challenged current trends and set the tone for a unique approach to design, they also became precursors to her exploration of stainless steel, a material she favored throughout her career. “Steel talks to me,” Pergay told Wallpaper in 2013. 'If it is willing to obey, it is like a tamed animal. But when it's bad it's a slap in the face. Luckily I didn't receive much of it.
Pergay played a key role in the contemporary design canon and her work has inspired younger generations from both an aesthetic and conceptual perspective. While her designs will be championed by the likes of Demisch Danant to be preserved and celebrated for the future, her pioneering spirit will live on through the mark she left on the design world.
