About the Item

French designer Marie-Claude de Fouquières designed this extraordinary fractal resin table lamp for the Parisian lighting company Ombre et Lumière in the 1970s. The rare piece boasts a large resin block with a vivid yellow color, a nickel-plated base, and a distinctive structure. The piece is engraved on the bottom: Ombre et Lumière - Paris. The table lamp has been rewired to fit US standards. A brand-new shade is included. Dimensions: The total height with shade is 19.5 in (49.5 cm) The base is 4.32 in wide (11 cm) by 4.32 in deep (11 cm) by 13.38 in high (34 cm). Note: Marie-Claude de Fouquières was the wife of a prominent French industrialist in the plastics industry. Dissatisfied with the furniture designs available to her in the 1960s, Marie-Claude de Fouquières produced her first table in 1969, made from polyester resin. She experimented with solid, massive resin sections, expanding her range of objects and furniture to include lamp bases, desks, tables, and panels. Private clients, such as David de Rothschild and the Emir of Qatar, as well as celebrated interior designers like David Hicks and Albert Pinto, championed her colorful resin for its dynamic effect of internal shattering. Claude de Fouquières achieves her signature fractal resin through a chemical reaction resulting in a poetic outcome. Her career was relatively brief, as in 1977, after the passing of her husband, she stopped her activity to continue her husband's business; consequently, her work is scarce and highly sought after.
