About the Item

Matteo Thun, one of the founding members of the legendary Memphis Group, stands among the most influential figures in late 20th-century Italian design. His ability to merge architecture, art, and radical experimentation redefined design language in the 1980s. Following his Memphis years, Thun went on to serve as Creative Director for Swatch and today remains an acclaimed architect and designer of international renown. The Dieci Spargi Table Lamp, designed in 1985 for Bieffeplast as part of the Stillight series, epitomizes Thun's visionary approach. Inspired by the forms and symbols of fortified architecture, the lamp translates monumental references into a sculptural yet functional object. Crafted from grey-painted steel with perforated sections that allow for subtle light play, the design is accented by an unexpected detail: a green switch that punctuates the lamp's geometric austerity with a playful, postmodern twist. Far more than just a lamp, this piece is a manifesto of 1980s Italian radical design-an object where irony, rigor, and elegance coexist seamlessly. In excellent condition and fully functional, the Dieci Spargi offers collectors a rare chance to acquire an authentic piece of Thun's early experimental work, emblematic of the Memphis spirit.
