About the Item

We kindly suggest you read the whole description, because with it we try to give you detailed technical and historical information to guarantee the authenticity of our objects. Iconic and straightforward French table lamp; the top is made of fine opaline glass in the shape of an inverted bell, the base is made of wood and brass; this model owes its name and origin to the Parisian lamp manufacturer "Mazda," who in the 1920s, came up with twin designs of a table lamp and a floor lamp; the two models were distinguished by their essential practicality and elegant, refined silhouette and soon became two iconic objects in the field of lighting. Our lamp was produced in France between 1930 and 1935 by "Mazda Lamp." Mazda is a brand created in 1909 in the United States within General Electric and in addition to incandescent light bulbs, had a prolific production of lighting and furniture items of the highest quality; the brand was granted and employed in France from 1921. It was chosen that name because of its association with the deity Ahura Mazda, the chief god of Zoroastrianism whose name of Avestan origin means the light of wisdom (Ahura= light; Mazda= wisdom). The original "Mazda Lamp" style table lamps captivate with their 1930s Parisian simple and functional Art Deco design. When lit, with this type of opaline glass with a milk-white color, the lamp takes on an even more pronounced elegance by diffusing a soft glow. Opaline is slightly translucent glass, opacified by means of sodium and calcium phosphates and chlorides with the addition of tin oxides and talc, resulting in various shades of colors from pastel to milky white; the first opaline glass ornaments were made in Murano in the 16th century, the technique did not remain secret and was copied in Germany and France and had its heyday from 1820 to 1870; for lighting, opaline glass was a huge success in the early 20th century. Our lamp is of fairly large proportions, but overall it is understated, luxurious, and refined; with its simple structure and clean, light architectural lines, it is a prestigious and unique, elegant, and modern piece of furniture that can be adapted to any room in your home. For those with a nostalgic soul, the introduction of elements with a retro flavor can be the perfect solution; in addition to visually warming the space, it allows the rooms of the house to shine with a timeless light. Measures diameter cm.25, height cm.33. The lamp is in excellent condition. The electrical system has been completely redone with US wiring; voltage compatibility in other states should always be checked by an electrician before use. For all our shipments we use special packaging materials (wooden crates, styrofoam, etc.) for maximum protection and safety of the objects.

Art Deco French Lamp Mazda Style in Nickel and Golden Brass 'Without Lampshade'
By Mazda
Located in Prato, Tuscany
We kindly suggest you read the whole description, because with it we try to give you detailed technical and historical information to guarantee the authenticity of our objects. Elegant and linear lamp in nickel and gilded brass; the solid round base with two steps, supports a brass sphere from which departs a stem with a refined, harmonious, and proportioned shape; at the top of the stem, there is a small but massive brass disk above which was placed the point of light with the attack for a lampshade (not supplied). The lamp was produced in Paris between 1960 and 1964 in a laboratory for the metalworking, it was a very well-equipped and specialized laboratory because the polishing and finishing of the two metals used were obtained with precision and meticulousness of the highest level; in the process of polishing the piece was worked with wheels of natural ?bre, combined with a very fine abrasive paste, then using other types of wheels it was possible to obtain a perfect polishing so that even the reflection of light becomes more uniform, giving the surface in question the typical bright appearance. These master craftsmen have made the lamp with their own design in Mazda style, by the concession of the Mazda Company itself without being able to affix the brand but following strict production patterns, the original table lamp style "Mazda Lamp" fascinates for its Parisian design of the thirties, simple and functional Art Deco; The successful combination of these mixed materials and refined colors have created a preciousness rich in contrast but very harmonious; in this lamp quality, elegance and fine workmanship are the focus of attention. Here the creativity of the designer and the art of craftsmanship come together to create an exclusive product, a unique modern furnishing accessory, refined and elegant at the same time, which adapts naturally and simply to both contemporary and classic environments. Mazda is a brand created within General Electric in 1909 and in addition to incandescent bulbs, had a prolific production of lighting and furniture of the highest quality, was chosen this name because of its association with the deity Ahura Mazda...

Maison Jansen Attibuted Hollywood Regency Style French Table Lamp
By Maison Jansen
Located in Prato, Tuscany
We kindly suggest that you read the entire description, as with it we try to give you detailed technical and historical information to ensure the authenticity of our objects. Iconic and refined French table lamp; the elegant, hexagonal-section base is made of black lacquered wood and grows in height, at its top is a turned brass support on which rests a flattened sphere at the poles made of enameled metal, above the sphere is another brass support on which is housed the lamp holder. The design of the lamp is sumptuous but very proportionate, with a flashy but elegant decorative effect, right in the "Hollywood Regency" style. The lamp was created in Paris between 1970 and 1975; after carefully examining its manufacture and the materials used, we carried out careful and painstaking research and can attribute it with good certainty to the Maison Jansen, a French company that is an international emblem of luxurious style. In 1880, at the height of the Belle Époque, Jean-Henri Jansen emigrated from Holland to open a furniture store on Rue Royale in Paris. Maison Jansen was a success from the start. The shopkeeper was immediately impressed with his lavish, detailed window displays and unique approach to selling furniture within ten years Maison Jansen was no longer a store but a rapidly expanding design company with a wealthy and loyal clientele, clients he would retain for nearly a century. It was one of the most famous and influential interior decorating houses of the 20th century, frequented by royal families, high society figures, national leaders, and other luminaries of elite society. It was one of the first properly global design firms, one of the most influential voices of the twentieth century, an excellence that helped establish the Jansen style as an undisputed protagonist of design history. The genius of the company lay in its extraordinary ability to retrieve striking forms, colors, and materials from the past. The most sought-after pieces reflected the influence of past design, from the Louis XIV style to the Louis XVI style, from the Directoire era to imperial suggestions. In 1929, upon Jansen's death, the firm continued to expand its presence in the world under the leadership of Stèfan Boudin, Jansen's loyal collaborator; Stéphane Boudin was succeeded, after his death in 1967, by longtime collaborator and colleague Pierre Delbée, whose residence in Paris was world-famous as the pinnacle of Jansen's lush aesthetic, continued to represent the firm in its best designs until 1979, when the firm changed hands. The business did not last long after his departure, and Maison Jansen closed its doors in 1989, more than a century after its founding. Throughout its operation, Maison Jansen had very prestigious clients and commissions: William III of Holland, Alfonso XII of Spain, the Duke and Duchess of Windsor, the Rockefellers, Elsie de Wolfe, Nancy Astor's granddaughter Nancy Lancaster, American millionaire Henry Channon, the Kennedys and Coco Chanel, the restoration of the White House, including the famous Red Room, during John Kennedy's administration, furnishing of Lady Olive Baillie's Leeds Castle...
